Turning an unused woodland into an outdoor classroom
The woodland at St Aloysius College is one of the school's most significant environmental assets. Before this project, the site was largely unused and inaccessible. With funding from Sabzgaman Beski to support student engagement activities, Growing Green began work in January 2025 to change that.
A Forest Club was established in March 2025, led by a qualified outdoor learning practitioner. It ran until Easter 2026, attracting an average of eight pupils per session, and gave students regular, hands-on time in the newly accessible woodland.
Building on the success of the Forest Club, Growing Green launched a new Nature Club at the school in September 2026, broadening the focus to the school's wider green spaces and biodiversity. Read more about the Nature Club launch.
